A few weeks ago I posted about one of my ideas for a project. I think I’m going to go through with venturing into it over the next year to year and a half.
If you haven’t read the previous post, the idea is called Kylie25. Kylie Minogue is my favorite singer and 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of her first album. Kylie also survived breast cancer, but my grandmother didn’t so I’d love to see a cure to help save other people. This project is two fold in that it will give me more experience with designing patterns and I will be donating part of what I make from selling items based on the patterns to breast cancer research.
The first pattern that I have totally mapped out in my head is called In My Arms (here is the video). The pattern is for a pair of fingerless gloves for women that split just above the wrist and run up just past the elbow. The split will be tied together with ribbon used to lace the two sides together and make the pattern an adjustable size. I have two color variations in mind for it. If you’re curious, here is the Pinterest board for planning it (please bear with me while I fight with getting the images to actually pin).
Another pattern I have in mind reaches back to Kylie’s 1997 album Impossible Princess (here is the song called “Dreams,” the name of the album comes from the lyrics in this song). I definitely want to use the colors from the album’s cover (see below) and am trying to think of an adult pattern that is kind of a “deconstructed” kid’s pattern for an adult. But this is where I’m stuck because I’m not sure what kind of pattern to do. I’m thinking something around the head and/or neck, just not sure what.
I think the emotions on her face with the bolder colors against the black background work together and will inspire a great pattern, just not sure what one.
I NEED YOUR HELP!!!
Do you have any ideas to help me with this pattern? If you do and would be so kind as to share them, sound off in the comments. I would greatly appreciate it!
